Joseph's Coat of many Colors

I saw a red bird in my butterfly bush last year.
it didn't look like a cardinal.
It had a red breast and belly;
a totally blue head;
a ring around the eye.
It most assuredly was not a cardinal.

When I searched for him in my bird book,
he proved to be a ‘Painted Bunting’.
He happens to be one of the most beautiful birds
in North America!
(and I had never seen or heard of it)

I didn't get pictures of it last year,
but he visited early one morning a few weeks ago.
Just one sighting.
I happened to be right in front of my window,
with camera in hand -
or I would have missed these quick captures.
I was so excited!

Despite his beautiful plumage,
he is difficult to see.
From the front – this bird looks all red
except for some dark gray at the wings
and the blue head.
But when the other side is revealed –
this small bird is adorned and ‘covered’
with a coat of many colors!

I named him 'JOSEPH'

His other well known name is
"Nonpareil" - meaning "without equal"
(source taken from: National Audubon Society
Field Guide to BIRDS – Eastern Region)

There is none 'equal'
to the ONE TRUE GOD!
NONE!

He is 'Nonpareil'

"And this is the way to have eternal life -
to know you,
the only TRUE God,
and Jesus Christ,
the One you sent to earth"
John 17:3 NLT

  4. Sherry,

Awwww.... the Lord blessed you too with a very rare and special sighting. They seem to not stay long - at least when they are sent to encourage us. We have to be looking. We have to be quiet in His Presence ... to see what He has for us to see.

I was so excited to hear that you too saw Joseph. One more thing we share :)

I am in transition myself. At least for a few months, I will not be settled but will try to steal some time to blog :) I miss you too and the other friends I've met all over the globe - since blogging.

Thanks so much for stopping by to say you missed me. I appreciate you, my friend.

Hugs to you and the family

    1. Sarah, what a a sweet surprise to see you hear today. And your lovely comment blessed me. Thank you and I wish the same blessing for you on this marvelous Mother's Day 2012. One more year wiser, right? 365 more days of wonder and blessings behind us as we look forward to those yet to come.

I miss you. I miss posting & surfing. Life took a dramatic turn after the time of this post about 7 months ago. I'm still in limbo but more flexible with my time as I no longer care for Dad 24/7. I'm in the process of discerning God's NEW season for me. I know He has a colorful coat to cover me with - I am eager to carry His beauty and love where ever He chooses to plant me.

Pray for me dear sister in Christ as I pray for you. You have been such a blessing to me through the past season of isolation, mental, and physical fatigue. Through it all - the Lord Jesus sustained me and continues to bless me and bestow His cherished favor and blessings upon me. He surprises me at every turn.

      Blessings to you dear one
